Seven-mile Bridge At Twilight
We were at an art festival in Marathon and decided to experiment again with night photography. This photo was shot at the beginning of astronomical twilightdefined. The 2½ minute exposure is much longer than the maximum 20-second exposure required by the 500 Ruleexplained to keep the stars from stretching. Also notice the long car-light trails on the bridge. The ocean bottom in the foreground is lit up by the dim outdoor lights of the restaurant over that long period of exposure.

This image was taken 7% of the way through astronomical twilight. Photographic details: Canon EOS 7D camera w/ EF 16-35 f/2.8 L USM autofocus lens set at 16mm. Flash was not used. Camera was on f/11 for 150 sec at ISO 200. Exposure was increased two stops in post-processing.
