Fledgling Tricolored Herons

Wakodahatchee Wetlands, Delray Beach, Florida

Tricolored Herons

We were visiting Wakodahatchee Wetlands and Green Cay Wetlands, both man-made wetlands and water reclamation facilities for Palm Beach County, and both wonderful spots for photographing birds. In July, chicks and fledglings are everywhere. When they mature, the chestnut coloring of the neck and wings of these Tricolored Herons (Egretta tricolor) will turn to dark blue.
